School Programs
History And Stars
Explore how we saw, see, experience, and use the sky above us. This 1-hour talk covers light, sextants, and telescopes. Students will handle sextants and learn the basics of their use to collect light from heavenly bodies and compare it with earthly vistas. The session includes a comparison of how voyageurs and astronauts use technology to understand their world using the sky.
Museum Mystery
Solve the mystery of who stole David Thompson’s sextant before time runs out! Engage in puzzles, a crime scene investigation, and explore historical references to Hinton in the 1920s.
Storytelling Within The Stars
Learn about traditional Indigenous storytelling practices and uses. Students will create their own creation legend using story dice and then will learn about an Indigenous creation story found within a constellation. After hearing the story, they will make a 3-D diorama of the Indigenous story to take home.
